Red Oaks

A contemporary country home shaped by light, views, and landscape—Red Oaks is a thoughtful new dwelling responding to its rural AONB setting with sensitivity and clarity.

Rooted in Landscape, Designed for Light

Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Red Oaks is a home designed to feel both joyful and grounded. The scheme responds directly to the movement of the sun and distant views across the countryside, positioning the master bedroom to capture both sunrise and sunset. The main house stands confidently in the landscape, while the low, linear outbuildings are intentionally more reserved, creating a hierarchy of form. The architecture takes cues from the local vernacular—particularly the use of gable ends—reinterpreted with a contemporary design language. Landscape and access arrangements have been refined to protect existing trees and improve rural connectivity through the site. With subtle detailing and a deep respect for its surroundings, Red Oaks seeks to enhance, not impose.

Design Moves

The design of Red Oaks revolves around creating a bright and uplifting living environment that celebrates its natural context. The L-shaped main house is carefully oriented to maximise views and solar gain, while key living spaces—such as the open dining area and entertainment zone—face out across the landscape. A series of dark sky–friendly design strategies and layered tree planting ensure minimal visual impact from within the AONB. The layout responds directly to site constraints, adjusting for root protection areas and enhancing visual connectivity across the rural setting. Outbuildings sit low and long, their scale reduced to remain subservient, while their placement subtly frames views through the site. Materials and detailing are drawn from the local design guide, helping the home feel instantly rooted in its place.
