Reimagining a Historic Farmstead
Set within a landscape once defined by agricultural rhythms, this project carefully transforms a historic farmstead into a contemporary home that celebrates its rural legacy. The design draws from the original character of the site—retaining key structures, re-establishing the courtyard form, and reconnecting the home with the surrounding woodland. With a strong focus on improving the relationship between built form and the natural setting, the proposal strikes a balance between heritage, modern functionality, and environmental care.

Floor Plan
From Farm to Family Home
The transformation begins with the removal of later agricultural infill buildings, allowing the reinstatement of a traditional courtyard layout as a sheltered garden space. Elements of the original farm buildings are retained for their architectural merit, creating a layered sense of history within the new design. The proposal improves the site’s ecology through the introduction of species-rich grassland, a new attenuation basin with wetland planting, and the protection of the eastern treebelt. By carefully separating equine and domestic areas, enhancing arrival sequences, and opening long views to the south, the project reorients the farmstead towards both its past and future—respecting its origins while shaping a sustainable, characterful home.
