Occupying arguably the best position on Bewl Water with commanding south facing views across the water, in the heart of the High Weald AONB this striking new house will replace a former farmhouse which was built before this valley became a reservoir.
The design narrative developed from two distinctly different spatial experiences;
• Strong horizontal lines from the water’s edge.
• Sinuous curving lake edge when looking down to the water.
A lighthouse like beacon at the junction of two long views SE & SW across the water which act as an orientational landmark.
With nods to modernism blended with traditional Kentish materials the house is strongly linear when viewed from the water’s edge but elegantly curving when seen from the surrounding higher ground.
The dramatic beacon space creates a magnificent centrepiece double height performance space.
The unique setting demanded something striking and bold. The surprise of arriving along a quiet narrow country lane to suddenly see the beacon and the lake will be nothing short of breathtaking.
The planning application for this replacement dwelling will be submitted to the local authority shortly.
