Another Para 134 Planning Consent

On the 22nd October 2020 Daventry District Council delegated the approval of Bergbyr (Paragraph 134) an exceptional new dwelling on the edge of a settlement adjacent to a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The scheme explores the elements & characteristics of a traditional motte & bailey, inverting the role of public & private, positive & negative spaces into an elegant sculptural form which commands & celebrates its elevated position. “Bergbyr” came from an old Norse word meaning “Hill dwelling” which became the settlement name “Barby”.We are immensely grateful to the planning officer at Daventry D.C. who has been proactive throughout the entire design & application process. We’re also grateful to the OPUN design review panel for their assistance and full support for the scheme. Bergbyr marks HAWKES architecture’s latest Para 134 consent and further reinforces the practice’s position as the leading experts working with the unique planning policy. This marks the end of a 10 year journey for the clients in their quest to build a house of their dreams. HAWKES were commissioned  in 2018 following several attempts to pursue a house on the site without success.
