Our Grand Designs eco-house, Crossway, addressed a huge array of issues associated with the design of the humble dwelling.
One thing we hadn't anticipated however, was the whispering gallery effect created by the amazing tiled vault which forms the roof of the two end bedrooms.
The only way to eliminate this was to introduce a ceiling, but with so many different heights & angles to contend with this was far from easy. We therefore built a 1:20 model of the room and set about finding a form which resolved all the quirky angles into an elegant form.
The result was a complex compound curved timber structure which made a spectacular bedroom even more amazing.
The ceiling was built as four separate units and veneered with a truly individual hand-picked Japanese ash veneer. This unique commission was ably and enthusiastically embraced by the skilled joiners at Mounts Hill.
