The design of this Paragraph 55 explores an interesting characteristic of other buildings in the vicinity where the principal road facade is simple, discreet and devoid of detail, while in contrast the rear garden elevations are more elaborate & expressive.
Our proposals continue this characteristic, in doing so allowing us to more playfully sculpt the building to maximise its passive solar gain, while providing shade from the south facing sun. Creating more dramatic architecture when viewed from the private south facing garden.
When seen from the road north of the building, the form is simple & reminiscent of a peg tiled agricultural barn. As one moves into and around the site, simple distortions to the form create dramatic angles, cleverly resolving the inside & outside spaces.
