This house for a photogapher and his young family replaced a tiny 40m2 one bed cottage on a quiet country lane with a four bedroom 240m2 passive house.

Among its 'eco' credentials are 300mm wood fibre insulated Steico timber frame, MVHR, triple glazing, a very high level of airtightness, a log burning feature fireplace with top boiler linked to a large thermal store and optimised passive solar gain via full height frameless triple glazing.

Detailed and careful site studies were essential to ensure the increased massing respectfully and sensitively blended in with its surroundings.

Work started at the end of 2010 and the new house now embraces an old oak tree with stunning views across the open countryside.
